Expiry of Legislative Assembly

The following are the date of expiry of state legislative assemblies in 5 states viz., Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Puducherry and Assam.

  • Tamil Nadu        22.05.2016
  • West Bengal     29.05.2016
  • Kerala                31.05.2016
  • Puducherry       02.06.2016
  • Assam               05.06.2016

Assembly Constituencies

Do you know how many assembly constituencies (AC) are going to be under polling and how many seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST)?

Here are the list:

  • Kerala                => 140 ACs (14 reserved for SC and 2 reserved for ST)
  • Tamil Nadu        => 234 ACs (44 reserved for SC and 2 reserved for ST)
  • West Bengal     => 294 ACs (68 reserved for SC and 16 reserved for ST)
  • Puducherry      =>  30 ACs (5 reserved for SC)
  • Assam              => 126 ACs (8 reserved for SC and 16 reserved for ST)

  • Tamil Nadu       => 5.792 Crore (As on 20.01.2016)
  • West Bengal    => 6.555 Crore (As on 05.01.2016)
  • Puducherry      => 0.927 Crore (As on 11.01.2016)

 

Assam is the only state where Photo Electoral Rolls and Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) are issued 97.9% and 93.85% respectively whereas all other 4 states are covered fully (100%)

Basic Facilities and Arrangements

The Commission is committed its Chief Electoral Officers to ensure to provide the following basic minimum facilities in the polling stations

  • Drinking Water
  • Shed
  • Toilet
  • Ramp for Physically challenged Voters
  • Standard Voting Compartment
  • Separate Polling station for Women
  • Facility of Differently abled Voters (As far as practicable)
  • Facility for Blind Schools (As far as practicable)
  • Separate Polling station for Voters suffering from Leprosy (if possible)

Legislative Assemblies in Assam

In Assam, the election for legislative assemblies (126) will be conducted in Two phases. First phase will be conducted on 04.04.2016 (Monday) for 65 Assembly Constituencies. Second Phase will be conducted on 11.04.2016 (Monday) for 61 Assembly Constituencies. The counting of votes will be done on 19.05.2016 (Thursday)

  • Last Date for Nomination:  18.03.2016 (I Phase) & 21.03.2016 (II Phase)
  • Last Date for Withdrawal:  21.03.2016 (I Phase) & 26.03.2016 (II Phase)
  • Date of Poll:                        04.04.2016 (I Phase) & 11.04.2016 (II Phase)
  • Counting of Votes:            19.05.2016

 

 

Legislative Assemblies in West Bengal

In West Bengal, the election for legislative assemblies (294) will be conducted in Seven phases. First phase will be conducted on 04.04.2016 (Monday) for 18 Assembly Constituencies. Second Phase will be conducted on 11.04.2016 (Monday) for 31 Assembly Constituencies. Third phase will be conducted on 17.04.2016 (Sunday) for 56 Assembly Constituencies. Fourth Phase will be conducted on 21.04.2016 (Thursday) for 62 Assembly Constituencies. Fifth phase will be conducted on 25.04.2016 (Monday) for 49 Assembly Constituencies. Sixth Phase will be conducted on 30.04.2016 (Saturday) for 53 Assembly Constituencies. Seventh phase will be conducted on 05.05.2016 (Thursday) for 25 Assembly Constituencies. The counting of votes will be done on 19.05.2016 (Thursday)

  • Last Date for Nomination:  Starting from 18.03.2016 to 18.04.2016 (I to VII Phase)
  • Last Date for Withdrawal:  Starting from 21.03.2016 to 21.04.2016 (I to VII Phase)
  • Date of Poll:                        Starting from 04.04.2016 to 05.05.2016 (I to VII Phase)

In Kerala, the election for legislative assemblies (140) will be conducted in Single phase. Polling will be conducted on 16.05.2016 (Monday) for all 140 Assembly Constituencies. The counting of votes will be done on 19.05.2016 (Thursday)
